Creating a hands-free inventory system requires more than transferring an existing mobile application to smart glasses. The solution must connect digital assignments with a large physical warehouse, support reliable code recognition, respond to voice commands and exchange results with existing warehouse systems.

For ID Logistics, Nsflow, a NeuroSYS company, designed and developed Inventory AR: a dedicated smart-glasses solution supporting inventory operations across more than 11,000 locations at the distribution centre in Słubice. The system combines wearable UX, digital navigation, camera control, configurable documentation, a central operations panel and system integration. A working pilot was delivered in less than two months.

Business challenge

The objective was to replace a handheld-scanner workflow with one integrated hands-free process. Operators needed to receive assignments, navigate through the facility, confirm locations, identify products, enter quantities and document results without using a mobile terminal.

More than 11,000 warehouse locations had to be represented digitally in a structure that operators could understand while moving through the building. The application also needed to recognise small product and location codes from a practical working distance.

Documentation requirements varied between inventory scenarios: a photo could be mandatory, optional or required only when a product had no readable code. These policies needed to remain configurable rather than hard-coded.

Finally, assignments, confirmed results and discrepancy corrections had to move automatically between Inventory AR and the customer’s warehouse environment, while supervisors required real-time operational visibility.

How the system was engineered

1. Map digital assignments to physical locations

The warehouse was converted into a navigable digital hierarchy. The application leads the operator from the facility view to a specific shelf, while scanning the physical rack label confirms that the digital assignment matches the actual location.

2. Design for hands-free interaction

The interface presents only the information needed at each stage and uses voice commands for navigation and quantity entry. QR login removes manual credential entry, while direct camera controls and zoom help operators read labels without reaching for another device.

3. Connect the complete inventory workflow

The backend coordinates assignments, photo policies, permissions, results and discrepancies. A web panel provides real-time supervision and a visual layout editor, while integration transfers inventory data and corrections to the customer’s systems without manual re-entry.

Business impact

The project connects physical inventory directly with the customer’s digital environment. Operators receive guidance at the point of work, while supervisors see results as they are created. The architecture combines central configuration, permissions, monitoring and integration rather than delivering an isolated smart-glasses prototype. Together with Sorting AR, it provides a reusable foundation for multiple hands-free warehouse processes and for scaling the approach to further locations.
